BOARD OF INVESTMENT OF SRI LANKA

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka is the apex agency for foreign direct investment in Sri Lanka. With over 1,600 enterprises under its purview, the BOI contributes over 66% to the country‟s overall export earnings and 85% to the national industrial export earnings. In carrying out its primary function of investment promotion, the BOI aims at sector based investor targeting, while specializing in aftercare, navigating and regulating investor operations to reach its true and highest potential throughout the lifespan of the enterprise. Read more

SRI LANKA EXPORT DEVELOPMENT BOARD

Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) is Sri Lanka‟s premier organisation for the development and promotion of exports, established in 1979. The goal of SLEDB is to provide assistance and create opportunities for Sri Lankan exporters and industries to expand their business internationally, thereby increasing export sales and employment prospects in the region. Read more

Role of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board is the country’s apex Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), as mandated by a legislation. It plays a role of an umbrella organization for any matter related to the international trade.

The scope of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) is to develop and promote exports from Sri Lanka with the objective of increasing export earnings and contributing towards the economic growth of the country.

The SLEDB was established in 1979 under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act No. 40 and playing the role of a;

Policy Adviser – Advising the Government on national export development policies to create a conducive environment for exports

Monitor – Monitoring the performance and function of the export sector

Promoter -Implementing product, design, market and other development programmes to promote Sri Lanka’s products and services

Facilitator – Serving as the focal point of export development, facilitating and co-coordinating export development activities with all stakeholders

Knowledge Provider – Providing advisory services and information with regard to all aspects of the export business and advisory assistance to the exporters

Further, SLEDB has reached beyond its original responsibility as a trade promotion organization, and have reached onto multiple layers of the country’s industrial, service and export ecosystem playing the role of a mentor and a facilitator in reaching new markets and identifying industry trends.

Colombo Port City Economic Commission

The Port City Colombo project, with US $ 1.4 billion FDI, is co-developed by the government of Sri Lanka and CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt.) Ltd, under the theme of the Belt and Road Initiative. Spanning 269 hectares of reclaimed land from the sea, Port City Colombo will feature modern infrastructure, including a marina, shopping malls, hotels, and luxury apartments. The project is expected to transform Sri Lanka’s economy and make it a hub for international trade and investment. Read more
